Cristina Millares

Cristina Millares in Parque Doramas next to Millaránigos, her plant-fiber sculptures

Cristina Millares‘ work (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 1990) investigates memory, the body, vulnerability, and time from her insular context. Through painting, burlap, and plant fiber, the artist engages in a dialogue with her lineage—Agustín, Manolo, and Jane Millares—to consolidate her own contemporary language. Following residencies at La Regenta and CAAM, her recent participation in the Estampa art fair in Madrid with the Art as Experience gallery stands out.

Millaránigos

As part of the group exhibition «Biotopías», the creator presents Millaránigos, three free-standing, three-dimensional sculptures inspired by Canarian indigenous ceramic vessels. Crafted from natural mesh, rope, and banana fiber, the pieces transform historical rigidity into soft, bodily, and flexible forms. When interconnected, these organic gánigos cease to be isolated units to form a single continuous and shared body that invites reflection on fundamental gestures of care.
